日本には、各年を以下の12種類の動物で表す習慣があります。これを十二支と言い、元々は中国の文化です。
にほんには、かくとしをいかのじゅうにしゅるいのどうぶつであらわすしゅうかんがあります。これをじゅうにしといい、もともとはちゅうごくのぶんかです。
Japan has a custom to express every year with the following 12 animals. This is called “juu ni shi (= twelve zodiac signs)” in Japanese, which is originally Chinese culture.
子 [ね ne] = rat
丑 [うし ushi] = ox
寅 [とら tora] = tiger
卯 [う u] = rabbit
辰 [たつ tatsu] = dragon
巳 [み mi] = snake
午 [うま uma] = horse
未 [ひつじ hitsuji] = sheep
申 [さる saru] = monkey
酉 [とり tori] = rooster, bird
戌 [いぬ inu] = dog
亥 [い i] = boar
子丑寅卯辰巳午未申酉戌亥
[ね・うし・とら・う・たつ・み・うま・ひつじ・さる・とり・いぬ・い
ne・ushi・tora・u・tatsu・mi・uma・hitsuji・saru・tori・inu・i]
= all animals of twelve zodiac signs
2026年は午年です。
にせん にじゅう ろくねんは うまどしです。
2026 is the year of the horse.
日本語で horse の漢字は馬ですが、この十二支の場合のみ午を使います。
にほんごで horse のかんじは 馬(うま) ですが、このじゅうにしの ばあいのみ 午(うま) をつかいます。
In Japanese, kanji of a horse is 馬(uma), but 午(uma) is used only in the case of this “juu ni shi”.
